The Current Unemployment Numbers in Ohio

Now that Congress has finally passed the unemployment extension, unemployed individuals across the country have a financial reprieve until the end of February. The week before the holidays in 2010, the house and senate finally came to an agreement about unemployment benefits. Prior to reaching this agreement, the senate did not want to extend the current unemployment deadline. Had the deadline not been extended, unemployment benefits would have ended for millions of people on December 31, 2010. In many states today, the unemployment rate is still above six percent. This includes the ohio unemployment rate which has been around seven percent for the past two years. Currently in the state of Ohio, there are forty eight thousand people who are unemployed. While these numbers are expected to decrease in 2012, they will still be above the national average. In terms of weekly unemployment benefits in Ohio, these currently range between two hundred and three hundred dollars per week.
